The Northeast NSH Yearling Sweepstakes 2005

The Northeast NSH Yearling Sweepstakes program is established to encourage production of National Show Horses and to reward the owners of Sires whose services are donated and the owners of foals by those stallions.


Bidding for the services, starting at $300, will begin in July 1, 2005 and continue through the end of 2005, at which time the highest bidders will prevail and have one week in which to pay for the breeding or forfeit to the next highest bidder. Services not sold by December 31, 2005, will be sold to the first person paying $300 for the breeding by March 31, 2006.

Dates and Deadlines

• July 1 - December 31 2005 - Bids may be placed for stallion services
• January 7, 2006 - Payment must be received for services bought
• January 1, 2006 - March 31, 2005 - Unsold services may be bought for $300
• 2006 - Breed your mare for the 2008 Sweepstakes' yearlings
• December 31, 2006 - Reports naming mares bred for Auction Get foals must be received by Chairman
• 2007 - Sweepstakes foals are born for 2007 Sweepstakes class
• 2007 - Rebreed if mare bred in 2006 Auction Get did not produce
• December 31, 2007 - Deadline for receiving reports naming mares rebred that did not foal Auction Get for 2008 Sweepstakes class
• 2008 - Sweepstakes Class
• 2007 - Sweepstakes class for Auction Get from rebred mares using 2005 Auction breedings and for Get foaled in 2008 from the 2006 Auction

Prize Money and Eligibility to Show in 2008

1. AUCTION GET: NSHs produced from the 2005 Auction purchase and born in 2007 are eligible to show their yearling year, 2008, in the Northeast NSH Yearling Sweepstakes class. Prize money for these yearlings (less administration costs and a maximum of 20% for promotion) will consist of (a.) all Auction income plus (b.) all income from the purchase of eligibility for NON-AUCTION GET (see 2.)
   • 1st place: 45% of pot less 10% of winnings to auction sire
   • 2nd place: 25% of pot less 10% of winnings to auction sire
   • 3rd place: 10% of pot less 10% of winnings to auction sire
   • 4th place: 10% of pot less 10% of winnings to auction sire
   • 5th place: 10% of pot less 10% of winnings to auction sire
2. NON-AUCTION GET: Also eligible for the 2008 class, for a fee of $300, are other yearlings born in 2007 sired by an Auction stallion whose services sold, but the breeding was not purchased through the Auction. Prize money for these yearlings will be one half of the amount that AUCTION GET yearlings will win.
3. STALLION OWNER'S GET: The stallion owner, if his donated breeding sells (even to himself), may enter one offspring of his own breeding by that stallion, and it will be eligible for winnings as listed in 1., above. Additional yearlings by that stallion and belonging to the stallion owner will be eligible for winnings as listed in 2.

Breedings for any of the above named GET type, as well as the resulting foals, may be sold with the same prize money availability as long as all conditions and deadlines of these rules are met.

The Sweepstakes Chairman must be informed in writing by the end of 2006 of what mare has been bred to produce AUCTION GET. Failure to do so will result in the foal's being eligible for prize money only in the amount paid to NON AUCTION GET. The Chairman does not need to be informed of breedings purchased or mares bred to produce NON AUCTION GET.

In the case of a mare not producing a live foal in 2007 from an AUCTION GET breeding, that mare or a substitute mare may be bred again to the same stallion in 2007 (stallion contract permitting), and the 2008 foal will be eligible for the 2009 auction with prize money the same as what that 2008 placing would have paid or the 2009 placing's amount, whichever is less.The Sweepstakes Chairman must be informed by the end of 2007 if the original breeding did not produce a live foal and of mare being used for rebreeding.

While the Sweepstakes Chairman will make every attempt to inform breeders of deadlines and show dates, it is solely the responsibility of the breeder and GET owner to keep current on such deadlines and dates and to keep the Chairman informed as to any change in contact information or ownership.

NSH-NE makes no representations or warranties, express or implied, in any way relating to the stallion services being auctioned. Although NSH-NE will receive the proceeds of a successful bid, the stallion service contract is between the stallion owner and the successful bidder. NSH-NE is not a party to this contract.

Bidders should be advised that a successful bid creates a legally binding obligation to pay for the stallion service purchased. Bids in $50 increments will be taken by phone only after a bid card has been received by the Chairman. Bids will be recorded on www.bigtrot.org up until Decembner 20, 2005. Thereafter, inquiries of bid status must be made directly to the Chairman.

The Northeast NSH Yearling Sweepstakes class will be held in New England or at the District Two Championships. The class will be judged in accordance with USEF rules for the NSH Division.
