Rules:

The Challenge Program is open to horses of all NSH-NE members in good standing and who have paid the $10 program fee (per horse).  NSH-NE membership must be current before points will begin to accumulate.  The competition year shall run from December 1 thru November 30.  To be eligible for the NSH Show Horse award, horses must place in NSH classes in at least 2 shows. For the NSH Sport Horse award, horses must place in at least 2 open competitions.  Owners are responsible for communicating their show results to the Challenge Chairperson within two weeks of the show. The Champion, Reserve Champion and Top Five winners of the Show Horse, Ambassador and Sport Horse Challenges and the Champion of the Amateur Owned, Trained and Shown Challenge will be honored at the Annual Dinner Meeting.

NSH Show Horses:

  For the Show Horse award, points will accumulate from any NSH class at any show in New England, provided NSH-NE’s Challenge Chairperson has been advised of the show’s pertinent information 30 days in advance of the show so that notice can be posted on the club’s website, www.bigtrot.org All shows, NSHR/USAE rated and non-rated, will have the same point values:

Regular classes (1^st-6^th) - 7, 5, 4,3,2,1

Championship/Stake classes (Champ-6^th) - 10, 8, 5,4,3,2 points

If the winner of the Show Horse award accumulates all its points with a junior member, a $250 college scholarship, to be used before the junior’s 21^st birthday, will be awarded to the junior.  

The highest scoring amateur owned, trained and shown horse (horse that has not had professional training since January 1 of the current show year and is shown by its amateur owner trainer) that wins a Show Horse award will receive an additional award as well.

For the ambassador award, points will accumulate from any NSH class at any show from New England and elsewhere in the Eastern District (they must be from both), with the same 30 day provision described in the Show Horse category above.  Point values will be the same as above plus Northeast Championship show point values:

Registry funded classes at NE Championship show (Champ, Res., 3 Top 5’s) - 15, 12,10,10,10

Non Registry funded classes at NE Championship show (Champ, Res., 3 Top 5’s)- 10,8,5,5,5 or (1^st-6^th) 10,8,5,4,3,2.

For the Sport Horse award, credit will be given for placement in any sport horse event in New England such as dressage, competitive trail, endurance, carriage driving, hunter over fences, jumper and the like.  Only results from open competitions (not breed specific) will count.  A panel will decide the winning entries.
